7-Zip is a file archiving program with a high compression ratio. Typically, 7-Zip compresses files in the 7z format (30-70 %) better than the zip format. It offers a high compression ratio in the newer 7z format with LZMA compression. Supported formats:

LZMA is the default and general compression method for the 7z format. The main characteristics of LZMA are:

– Variable dictionary size (up to 4 GB)
– Compression speed: approximately 1 MB/s on a 2 GHz CPU
– Decompression speed: approximately 10-20 MB/s on a 2 GHz CPU
– Small amount of memory required for decompression (depends on the size of the dictionary)
– Small code size for decompression: approximately 5 KB
– Supports P4 multithreading and hyperthreading

What's new :
– The LZMA/LZMA2 compression speed has been increased by 8 % for the fastest compression levels and by 3 % for normal/maximum compression levels.
– 7-Zip now displays the Properties (Info) window and the CRC/SHA results window as a "view list" window instead of the "message box" window.
– Some improvements in the zip, hfs and dmg code.
– Earlier versions of 7-Zip could work incorrectly in "Large memory pages" mode in Windows 10 due to some bugs with "large pages" in Windows 10, now 7-Zip does not use "large pages" on Windows 10 up to revision 1709 (16299).
– Some bugs have been fixed.
