It was in 1768 in Edinburgh that Colin Macfarquhar, Andrew Bell & William Smellie published the first of three volumes of the Dictionary of Arts and Sciences, which constitutes the original edition of the Encyclopædia Britannica.
Since that date, Britannica has contributed to important cultural programs around the world, including the Encyclopædia Universalis.
In France since 1968, it publishes or distributes the biggest names in art and culture publishing: Universalis, but also Littré, Robert, and Franco Maria Ricci's Annales de l'Art, and more recently Universalis Junior, the online junior encyclopedia.
