About the Book

While Pharaoh Amenhotep III, more builder than warrior, ordered the construction of temples, monuments, pylons and gigantic statues, Queen Tiyi had her luxurious palace of Malgatta built.
She receives ambassadors from the foreign countries with which she trades, and they honor her with numerous favors. Aware that the Egyptian gods are shifting, Tiyi neglects to consolidate their power, preferring to maintain the good relations she enjoys with foreign countries.
Meanwhile, the Theban women, at the heart of Egyptian society, are active in rhythm with the seasons in order to strengthen their freedom of thought and action.
Traveling through the countryside along the Nile, Neby, a young public scribe, survives by taking jobs on various farms, working in fields of wheat, flax, or papyrus. During a livestock census in a village, Neby is noticed by the High Priest Panehesy, who teaches her to write hieroglyphs. Troubled, she discovers a strange feeling that will shape and seal her fate.
