Daniel receives an unexpected letter. His twin brother Max, whom he hasn't seen for years, asks him to come visit him in Himmelstal, the "valley of paradise," at a secluded retreat in the Swiss Alps. The insistence with which his brother makes his request prompts Daniel to pack his bags.
