This article demonstrated the author's idea that one can create a portrait of an ordinary person using all the traces they have left, intentionally or not, on the internet, on sites like Facebook, Les Copains d'avant, or YouTube. The journalist compiled two full pages of information about the life of this young man in his thirties, living in Saint-Herblain and working as a draftsman in an architect's office. He managed to reconstruct his professional, romantic, and musical history by retrieving some of the 17,000 photos of his travels (posted in less than two years), details about his personal life, his passions, the names of his friends, and even his cell phone number.” Today, the world is entirely dependent on communication technologies. No organization can afford to be cut off from the internet or revert to the days of fax and postal mail. We live in an era of instant gratification and can no longer wait several days to receive a document in the mail. Organizations are finally beginning to recognize the risk of network outages due to intentional or accidental disruptions to information systems. Finding information is not enough; it must be validated.
