Materialism, the philosophy that asserts everything is made of matter and rejects the existence of God, is in reality the contemporary version of paganism. Ancient pagans worshipped inanimate objects like stone or wooden totems, considering them divine beings. Furthermore, materialist philosophy based its claims on the belief that humans and all living beings are created from atoms and molecules. From this superstitious perspective, inanimate atoms somehow organized themselves and, over time, acquired life and consciousness, ultimately giving rise to humankind.
