About the Book

Radiotherapy is used in 70% of cancer patients. This generic term, however, encompasses distinct techniques. To date, radiotherapy machines primarily use beams of photons and electrons. However, for certain pathologies, this type of radiation encounters ballistic problems. Accelerated particles such as protons represent a very interesting alternative. The nature of these beams allows them to penetrate deep into tissues to deposit their energy at a very precise distance. Due to their ballistic advantages, protons were used as early as 1954 for the treatment of certain tumors.
