Calibre Companion (CC), recommended by the developers of calibre, is a three-in-one application:
– A superb, organizer-caliber library base unit
– A basic-caliber, high-performance WiFi device emulator
– A Calibre content client/server (web access)
1) CC is a device-based organizer library. Once you put books on your device using one of the connection methods described below, you can:
– View the metadata of a book (author, netiquettes, series, rating, dates, etc.).
– Sorting and grouping of books by their metadata.
– View book lists by cover or by list.
– Mark the books read and synchronize this information with the caliber.
– Launch your book reader app to read a book (works with most reading apps, except for Amazon's Kindle)
2) Calibre can connect to Calibre over Wi-Fi and be detected by a Calibre device. Once connected, you use Calibre to move books from your device. Calibre automatically updates all book metadata stored by Calibre to match the latest version in your library. No other application, reader, or browser offers this level of integration with Calibre.
3) CC can connect to calibre's content server over Wifi to browse your library and download books to your device.
Notes:
1) CC is not a player application. You need to install and use one of the many excellent player applications available.
2) CC requires that you use calibre 0.9.02 or later, available at http://calibre-ebook.comSome CC features, such as book synchronization and reading information, require newer versions of Calibre.
