FINAL FANTASY IX is a role-playing video game developed by Square Co. under the direction of Hiroyuki Itō. It was released in July 2000 in Japan, in November in North America, and in February 2001 in Europe and Australia. Following episodes VII and VIII, it is the third and final game in the series to be released on Sony's PlayStation.
The game depicts the adventures of young teenagers who try to stop a tyrannical and warlike queen, and later a mysterious man tormented by his origins, driven mad and intent on destroying the world. Beneath the characters' apparent simplicity, Hironobu Sakaguchi attempts to present a complex chronology, a reflection on death and the meaning of life, particularly through the character of Bibi, who acts as narrator during certain sequences.
