Global Mapper is more than just a visualization tool capable of displaying the most common raster images, elevation data, and vector data. It converts, edits, prints, acquires GPS data, and allows you to use GIS functionalities on your datasets in a cost-effective and simple way. Global Mapper also provides direct access to the entire TerraServer database of satellite imagery and topographic maps from the USGS, as well as true 3D visualization of elevation data with draping of any raster image or vector data.
Your data files can be loaded as layers, so a digital terrain model (DTM) can be loaded along with a topographic map to create a 3D view of the map. A digital aerial photograph can be draped along with vector data to create an information-rich map. The result can be printed, or the workspace can be exported as a high-resolution raster image for use in a presentation or report.
Have you ever received a dataset that doesn't match the projection of your current project? Simply load the dataset into Global Mapper, change the projection, and save your file to adapt it to your coordinate system. If the dataset is larger than the area you're interested in, export it using the extraction function and change the projection and data format at the same time.
Global Mapper is more than just a utility; it has built-in features for calculating distances and areas, adjusting the brightness and contrast of raster images, querying elevations, calculating viewpoints, as well as advanced capabilities for image rectification, contour creation, watershed analysis from DEMs, and triangulation and gridding of 3D point data.
