The game of compression/decompression software is endless, and new free programs never stay free for very long. For example, PowerArchiver, once considered an alternative to WinZip Or WinRARIt became a paid program starting with version 8.0. Nevertheless, it remains a very good piece of software in its category.
It allows, in particular:
File compression in the following formats ZIP, ZIPX, 7-ZIP, RAR, ISO, LHA, TAR/GZ/BZ2, CAB, JAR, LZH, BH (BlakHole)... more than twenty formats in total.
Decompressing files in the following formats ZIP, ZIPX, 7-ZIP, CAB, LHA (LZH), TAR, GZIP, BZIP2, ISO, BH, XXE, UUE, yENC, MIME (Base64), RAR, ARJ, ARC, ACE, MSI, NSIS, CHM, DMG, RPM, CPIO, VHD, XAR, LZMA, SquashFS, CramFS, ZOO, WIM plus ISO
* The creation of self-extracting archives,
* Multi-volume archiving,
* Live content preview,
* Viewing and sending via FTP

Powerarchiver supports multi-core processing for both compression and decompression. Furthermore, the software allows data encryption using either the new ZIP AES standard (128, 192 and 256 bits) or PAE (proprietary method) according to 5 methods: Blowfish (128-bit), DES (64-bit), Triple DES (128-bit), AES 128-bit, and AES 256-bit.
Powerarchiver also adds extensions to Windows Explorer such as the ability to extract an archive into the current directory with the subdirectory name being that of the archive (e.g., c:documentsessai.zip becomes c:documentsessai).
