SolidWorks 2016 has been launched for a few weeks now, it's time for us to list the 10 main new features and improvements of this year!
1. User Interface
The SolidWorks user interface has been redesigned to provide improved display support high resolution and pixel density. A new trihedral concept has been implemented to ensure visual clarity and improve the usability of the software.
2. Sketches
At the sketching level, SolidWorks 2016 offers the possibility to create end closures to offset open-loop, one-way sketch entities in 2D sketches. It is now also possible to convert automatically the inner loops of an entity of the face of a model and to apply equal curve length relationships between two entities.
The 2D Moment This allows you to dynamically manipulate sketch dimensions in sketch mode. You can also preselect sketch entities, reverse their direction, or create segments of equal length within arcs and circles. SolidWorks also supports style splines. for B-Splines.
3. Parts and functions
Several improvements are worth noting regarding parts and functions. SolidWorks 2016 allows the creating ANSI Inch holes thanks to FeatureWorks and Direct Editing. It is also possible to define the fillet edges constants and variables on a continuous curvature in order to obtain a smoother curvature between adjacent surfaces.
The tools "Integration and Mutual Adjustment" They provide a set of preview options that facilitate navigation between regions as well as indentation within a model. The tool Unfolding Meanwhile, it offers more control and variations for surfaces that can be unfolded. The option "Circular Profile" allows you to create a solid rod or hollow tube along a sketch line, edge or curve directly onto a model without having to sketch it.
4. Assemblies
You can copy multiple components at once and maintain the constraints between them. To facilitate the selection of objects to constrain, you can display a component preview in its own preview window. If a constraint reference is missing from a component that is used in many places within an assembly, you can replace the missing reference for all occurrences at the same time.
The constraint pilot This allows you to manipulate specific constraints that control the degrees of freedom of a design. You can mirror assembly features and rename components directly. in the FeatureManager design tree. When you save an assembly as a multibody part, additional internal data is saved. This extra data allows you to maintain the assembly constraints in the multi-body room.
5. Drawings and layout
You can reduce or trim linear dimensions in any type of drawing view. The tool "Model break view"allows you to create 3D break views based on a model configuration for individual drawing views.
You can define notes in the annotation view Notes area so that they behave like watermarks in the designs. Regarding notes and speech bubbles, the flags constitute a means of cross-referencing between an area or function on a drawing and a list of notes, often called general notes.
The tool "Automatic curb" allows you to control all aspects of a background map border, including the area presentation and border size.
6. SolidWorks Costing
The main new features of SolidWorks Costing are focused on assembly reports now customizable to present the results of the cost analysis. It is also possible to customize machining templates in order to more accurately reflect the manufacturing process for the creation of parts.
7. SolidWorks Simulation
In SolidWorks Simulation, another curvature-based mesher is available. new mesh uses improved algorithms that provide a high-quality surface mesh. You can also analyze contacts and the boundary conditions of the bodies to verify that these bodies are sufficiently constrained. The mesh cutting tool allows you to cut the mesh and display internal elements of it in simulation studies.
You can create new results charts Simulations are defined using equations based on standard mathematical functions of existing result variables. Error messages from the solver are enhanced with a hyperlink that directs you to the correct solution article in the SolidWorks Knowledge Base.
8. SolidWorks Electrical
In SolidWorks Electrical, you can now annotate electrical documents, drawings, and schematics using'eDrawings. You can use CircuitWorksLite allows you to automatically create a SolidWorks component from an EDA (eCAD) file describing a printed circuit board (PCB). New side panels appear on the right side of the interface to help you find information more quickly and perform actions with fewer clicks.
9. SolidWorks PDM Standard
SolidWorks PDM Standard is a new product based on SolidWorks Enterprise PDM. It is included with SOLIDWORKS Professional and SOLIDWORKS Premium. SolidWorks PDM Standard is a document management product based on the same architecture as SolidWorks Enterprise PDM with standard features (see the feature summary table on page 194 of the "What's New" section).
Regarding SolidWorks PDM Professional, It is possible to read or write custom PDF properties using the dedicated plug-in. In SolidWorks PDM, administrators can map a revision variable in the workflow to synchronize it with a revision number.
10. SolidWorks Visualize
SolidWorks Visualize is the major new feature of SolidWorks 2016. It's the "camera" that lets you create, communicate, and collaborate using high-impact, emotionally engaging visual content to foster innovation and guide design decisions and business solutions.
