Total Commander offers an alternative to Windows Explorer. The application includes numerous features such as copying, moving, renaming, drag and drop, deleting (to the Recycle Bin or permanently), a client for connecting to FTP servers, direct access to network neighborhood, the ability to split large files into smaller ones for later reassembly, and an archiver capable of handling formats such as RAR, ZIP, and ACE. Total Commander also allows you to limit transfer speeds to prevent your hard drive from becoming full. There's even a history of actions performed!

File operations:
Copy, move, rename and delete entire directory trees.
Compare files by content, now with an internal editor.
Synchronize directories (with their subdirectories), or a directory and a ZIP file.
Encoding/Decoding files in UUE, XXE and MIME formats.

Working with archives:
Archives are managed like directories. You can easily copy files to and from archives. The appropriate archiving program is launched automatically. pkzip, arj, lha, rar, ace, and uc2 are all supported.
A ZIP and compatible compressor is integrated; it handles long filenames! These compressors are available at: Info-Zip's ZLIB.
The internal decompressors handle ZIP, ARJ, LZH, TAR, GZ, CAB, RAR and ACE formats.
Compressors can be added as add-ons. See the "Additional Compressors" page.
