New features from Avast!:
– HTTPS scanning. We can now detect and decrypt TLS/SSL-protected traffic in our web content filtering component. We use our own generated certificates, which are added to the root certificate store in Windows and major browsers. This feature protects you against viruses from HTTP traffic and also adds compatibility for SPDY+ HTTPS/HTTP 2.0 traffic. You can enable/disable this feature in the settings section.
– Home network security. Scan your home network for vulnerabilities (Wi-Fi status, connected devices, router settings, factory passwords, etc.). This is a completely new approach, as we are trying to uncover potential problems that are not isolated to a particular device, but across the entire network of devices you use or connect to the internet.
– SecureDNS (this feature is only available in paid versions). We are introducing a new provider that protects against DNS hijacking/unsecured DNS on a router/client (including unsecured networks, public networks, etc.).
– Smart Scan. Integration of all on-demand scans into one (Antivirus, software updates, home network, GrimeFighter). One scan, different results and recommendations.
– New support system. Easy contact for paying users to submit a ticket with all information automatically included. Improved knowledge base for free users. Help is entirely online and more up-to-date.
– General error correction. This covers many stability and performance changes across all components (but the main focus was traditionally on the network and engine components).
– GrimeFighter is free. GrimeFighter will offer free junk file cleaning and system setting adjustments. These tasks are performed by our minions Zilch and Torque. Other minion features remain paid options.
– AVAST NG. A hardware-based virtualization solution capable of running each Windows process in a self-contained virtualized environment (VM) fully integrated with your desktop. Each process runs in its own VM instance, meaning complete isolation from your other applications. This feature now powers Avast DeepScreen, improving detection. The technology will eventually power the Sandbox and SafeZone components as well (although this is not currently the case).
