HDHacker is a standalone micro-utility that records, views, and restores the MBR (from a physical drive), the BootSector (from a logical drive), or any specified sector from any disk (even removable disks).
HDHacker can be used, for example, to save and restore a particular boot manager before a new Windows installation (which, obviously, overwrites it).
An MBR and Boot Sector backup can also be useful as a simple precaution, since viruses or other operating systems (like Linux) can sometimes overwrite and/or modify the MBR/Boot Sectors, making it impossible to boot the previous OS and/or access data stored on the disk. HDHacker can provide "insurance" against all these types of losses.
