While in the world of music computing we can find developments focused on achieving the best sound quality and performance, you can also find software to facilitate the musician's work, more intuitive and multifunctional like Ableton Live.

This digital audio workstation (DAW) has two different kinds of operation: the traditional multi-track audio and MIDI recorder and a mixing mode, designed to be used live for real-time sequencing or changing the overall tempo of the project without affecting the tone of the instruments.

Live operates in two modes: "Arrangement" mode and "Session" mode, each represented by a dedicated workspace, between which you can switch. In "Arrangement" mode, Live functions like a classic sequencer, with a timeline and a horizontal representation of the tracks and the overall arrangement. "Session" mode—Live's true distinguishing feature—is presented as a matrix—a grid, if you prefer—in which you place audio or MIDI sound elements called "clips." The tracks are represented vertically, forming the columns of the grid. The horizontal rows are called "scenes." Several clips from different tracks can be placed on the same scene/row and, consequently, triggered simultaneously. But each clip can also be played individually or in combination with clips from other scenes, allowing for all possible sound combinations and on-the-fly remixing. Clips can then be moved to the Arrangement view, and vice versa, or recorded directly into it.

The software is compatible with VST instruments and effects, but in addition, it has a large collection of VST instruments and most of the necessary features.
producers are covered: Simpler (a complete sampler), Operator (an emulation of a digital synthesizer), Electric (a piano with Rhodes sounds) and Analog (a vintage synth).

Ableton is very simple to use once you have mastered the software and, moreover, it is compatible with all kinds of elements: audio formats, MIDI controllers or keyboards among others.
