Microsoft offers a set of downloadable updates for users performing a clean installation of Windows 7.
Windows 7: no SP2, but a package to facilitate updates
Aware that many users, and especially businesses, have computers running Windows 7, Microsoft offers an update pack to facilitate its installation.
However, it is not offered as an SP2 pack but via a simple download.
When a new computer is installed with Windows 7 SP1 or a reinstallation is performed, it is now necessary to spend a long time retrieving updates via Windows Update.
Through a blog post on Technet, Microsoft announces the availability of this convenience pack which will allow users to bypass the mandatory use of the system's built-in update utility.
The pack contains all current updates and security patches from the arrival of Windows 7 Service Pack 1 until April 2016.
Once installed, the user will simply need to use Windows Update to retrieve the latest patches available since that date.
Although very similar to a Service Pack 2 (SP2), this package is not called one and is not distributed in the same way. Completely optional, it is not distributed via Windows Update but on the Microsoft Update Catalog website.
Two versions are offered for 32-bit and 64-bit systems of Windows 7 or Windows Server 2008.
